Frequently asked questions
What is Plaud?
Plaud is an AI-powered voice recorder with a companion app and web platform. It records meetings and phone calls with a single button press, transcribes speech in 112 languages, and automatically generates summaries, action lists, and mind maps based on customisable templates. Every device comes with the free Starter plan, which includes 300 transcription minutes per month — no paid subscription required to start.
Which model should I choose — Plaud Note, Note Pro, NotePin, or NotePin S?
- Plaud Note — ultra-thin credit-card format, two MEMS microphones, manual switching between meeting and phone recording mode. Supports Bluetooth (BLE 5.2) and Wi-Fi for file transfer.
- Plaud Note Pro — the most advanced model: AMOLED display, four MEMS microphones with AI beamforming, automatic mode switching, and voice pickup up to approximately 5 metres.
- Plaud NotePin / NotePin S — the smallest and most wearable option, worn as a pin, clip, bracelet, or necklace. Two MEMS microphones with noise reduction. Ideal for hands-free recording. NotePin S is the updated version.
Plaud Note and Plaud Note Pro support both in-person meetings and phone calls. All models transcribe in 112 languages, and are compatible with iOS and Android.
Does Plaud work for both in-person meetings and phone calls?
Yes. All Plaud devices record both in-room meetings and phone calls. Plaud Note Pro switches automatically between modes; Plaud Note switches manually. This ensures the microphones capture audio optimally regardless of whether the conversation is face to face or over the phone.
Features and specifications
What languages does Plaud transcribe?
Plaud transcribes in 112 languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, and English — as well as most major European and global languages. Summaries can typically be generated in a language of your choice, regardless of which language was spoken in the meeting.
How long does the battery last?
- Plaud Note — up to 30 hours of continuous recording / 60 days standby.
- Plaud Note Pro — up to 30 hours in Enhanced mode, or 50 hours in Endurance Mode (reduced range).
- Plaud NotePin / NotePin S — up to 20 hours of continuous recording / 40 days standby.
What is MEMS microphone technology and why does it matter?
MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) are high-quality miniature microphones that deliver professional audio in a very compact form factor. More microphones means better directionality and clearer speech — which produces more accurate transcriptions. Plaud Note and NotePin use two MEMS microphones. Plaud Note Pro uses four, with AI beamforming and noise reduction capable of picking up voices up to approximately 5 metres away.
How reliable is speaker identification?
Plaud identifies different speakers reliably in most situations, but — like all AI today — may occasionally attribute a line to the wrong person during rapid speaker changes. Always review summaries of important meetings before acting on them.
Tip: Briefly name all attendees at the start or end of a recording. This gives the AI context and noticeably improves speaker labelling accuracy.
How do I get the best AI summary?
Choose a template that matches your purpose — for example, meeting minutes, a sales call, or an interview — and say a few sentences right after the meeting about who attended and what was discussed. Both steps give the AI valuable context and significantly improve summary quality. Plaud offers a wide range of pre-built templates available in the app.
Pricing and plans
Do I need a subscription to use Plaud?
No. Every device includes the free Starter plan (300 transcription minutes per month). Recording is always free — plans only govern how many minutes you can transcribe with AI per month. You can upgrade at any time at Plaud.ai.

What happens if I run out of transcription minutes?
Your recordings are saved and nothing is lost. Files simply wait until your minutes reset at the start of the next month, or until you upgrade to a higher plan.
What is the difference between a personal plan and Plaud Team?
Personal plans (Starter, Pro, Unlimited) are for individual users. Plaud Team is the business solution for organisations and adds:
- Central billing and user / permission management
- Device management with forced sign-out and remote wipe on offboarding
- Audit logs and secure data sharing within the team
- EU data storage control — choose your region (e.g. Europe)
- Data Processing Agreement (DPA)
Data, privacy and security
Where are my recordings stored and how are they protected?
By default, recordings are stored locally on your device and in the app. Audio is temporarily transferred to the cloud for processing, but deleted from the cloud once returned to your phone — unless you enable Cloud Sync, in which case data is retained in the cloud. For EU/EEA accounts with Cloud Sync enabled, data is never stored outside Europe. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or above) and at rest (AES-256). Plaud is independently certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II, and HIPAA.
Does Plaud comply with GDPR?
Yes. Plaud is fully GDPR-compliant. For EU/EEA accounts, data is stored within the EU (AWS Frankfurt) and does not leave Europe. Plaud holds independent certifications for ISO/IEC 27001:2022 (information security), ISO/IEC 27701:2019 (privacy), SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, and EN 18031. Regular third-party audits and penetration tests are conducted. Reports and certificates are available via Plaud's Trust Center under a signed NDA as a prerequisite for access.
Are my recordings used to train AI?
Not by default. Plaud does not use your recordings or transcriptions to train AI models unless you explicitly opt in through your account settings. This zero-training default is contractually guaranteed. OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft operate under zero-data-retention agreements and retain nothing after delivering your transcription or summary.
Which AI models does Plaud use?
Plaud uses leading models from the GPT, Claude, and Gemini families via enterprise APIs from OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. For transcription, Plaud also uses proprietary fine-tuned models. All providers operate under zero-data-retention agreements.
Can I delete my recordings? What happens if I close my account?
Yes — you can delete individual recordings at any time in the app or on the web. If you close your account, all your data is deleted or anonymised in accordance with applicable laws. Before closing, you can export your data including audio files, transcripts, notes, and mind maps.
Can I use Plaud offline?
Yes. You can record audio offline on all Plaud devices. Transcription and AI features require an internet connection as they run in the cloud. There is also a fully local mode where audio is never uploaded, for users who need to keep everything on the device.
Legal
Is it legal to record meetings and phone calls in Sweden?
In Sweden, you are permitted to record a conversation you are participating in, even without informing the other parties. It is illegal to secretly record conversations you are not part of (illegal interception). When recordings contain personal data, GDPR also applies. We strongly recommend transparency — always let participants know they are being recorded. You as the user are responsible for ensuring there is a legal basis for each recording.

Do all meeting participants need their own Plaud device or licence?
No. Only you need a Plaud device and plan. You as the user are responsible for ensuring there is a legal basis and, where required, consent for the recording.
Is there a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) available?
A DPA is included as part of the Plaud Team Commercial Terms of Service. Individual and personal plans do not include a DPA — in that case Plaud acts as data controller. Businesses, public sector organisations, and professionals handling others' personal data (e.g. lawyers, HR teams, healthcare workers) should choose Plaud Team to ensure a DPA is in place. Contact us and we will help you find the right setup.
Compatibility and setup
Which phones and operating systems are supported?
The Plaud app is available for iOS 12.0 and later and Android 7.0 and later, downloadable from the App Store or Google Play. You can also access your recordings via Plaud Web in any browser and through the Plaud desktop app.
How do I transfer recordings to my computer or the web?
- Via USB (Plaud Note only): Enable "Access via USB" in the app settings, connect the device to your computer using the original cable, and copy files from the NOTES or CALLS folders.
- Via Bluetooth / Wi-Fi (Plaud Note Pro): Open the Plaud App and connect your device. Recordings transfer automatically over Bluetooth. For large files, tap the Fast Transfer prompt to switch to Wi-Fi for a quicker upload.
- Via cloud (all models): Enable Cloud Sync in the app. Your recordings sync securely and become accessible on Plaud Web and in the desktop app across all your devices.
What is included in the box?
- Plaud Note: device, magnetic case, magnetic ring, proprietary 4-pin charging cable, quick-start guide.
- Plaud Note Pro: device, magnetic case, magnetic ring, USB-C charging cable, quick-start guide.
- Plaud NotePin: device, magnetic pin, clip, charging dock, USB-C cable, quick-start guide.
- Plaud NotePin S: device, magnetic pin, clip, wristband, lanyard, charging dock, USB-C cable, quick-start guide.
A wall adapter (5V/0.5A) is not included and must be purchased separately.
How do I charge my Plaud device?
Use the included cable and a 5V/0.5A wall adapter (not included). Note that Plaud Note uses a proprietary 4-pin cable — standard USB-C cables are not compatible and may damage the device. Always use the original cable. A wall charger provides the most stable charging; computer USB ports will work but are not recommended.
